we do
Why
we do it
We are Matej & friends.
A crew of adventurers, outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers
led by curiosity and passion.
Based on a minimalistic 80's sailing catamaran we slowly discover & experience the world.
Decelerating everyday life
to look closer, chat longer, contemplate deeper & live to the fullest! Our goal.
Together with the Crew
+ we maintain, gradually refurbish and upgrade a sailboat.
+ we share the fruits of our work & enjoy time spent at sea!

objective: prepared for a (never realised) circumnavigation, floating AirBnB, home to a writer & filmmaker
region: Great Britain - Portugal - Netherlands & at least 2 Atlantic crossings
period: 1973 - 28. 8. 2023
Project facts:
-
The boat is an Apache 41 ketch rigged ocean-going sailing catamaran built in England 1973.
-
With over 12m in length and almost 6m width the design provides ample space on deck & below..
-
Compared with modern day catamarans, the Apache is more boat than a luxury villa.
-
While the structural components are sound, the charming interior space shows tired carpentry, a technical setup from the 2000's and many small things to fix & improve.

That being said, what we see from our minimalistic DIY perspective is:
GREAT POTENTIAL
for an independent, contemporary way of travelling.
How can I participate?
there are three ways to join. which one do you choose?
. . .
Become a guardian!
Go shopping in our imaginary market below to support the Tailwind Project.

According to your choices we'll know how to best use your
kind donation.

As a thank you you'll receive our weekly newsletter, Tailwind's live location tracker and a digital gift to download.
Join the crew.
Make it your boat! Come & stay
or sail with us: From a relaxed floating-hostel experience to adventurous passages. A week with friends or meeting other crew members – you choose.
By contributing your part to the annual running costs, you'll get the crew status for one year.
That means at least 14 days to spend on board. All at once or split in two weeks – as you like!

During this time, you can feel like at home: accommodation in a private cabin (if you don't bring a friend or partner) & food to a minimalist standard, sharing life aboard as well as some duties.
Be our partner.
You want to see Tailwind's vision blossom and harvest its fruits with us? Join in for real!

For those who decide to support us beyond the regular crew contribution, we're open to form long-lasting partnerships.

This can reach from a many-weeks geteaway under sail all the way to co-ownership where we shape the boat and its plans together — big time!
